BUFFALO, N.Y.--Following a solid performance at the conference championships over the weekend, Miami University freshman women's tennis player Cara Wald (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) was named to the six-member Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team.
Wald, who was sidelined for four weeks due to a knee injury and returned to the courts for the first time in Miami's final regular-season match on April 18, went 4-0 over the two matches, picking up a pair of wins at No. 6 singles and two wins with fellow freshman Megan Martzolf at No. 2 doubles. She was the only RedHawk to go 4-0 at the MAC Tournament.
Against Ball State, Wald notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Georgina Thompson, while she and Martzolf posted an impressive 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles against BSU's Thompson and Sophie Quist. Versus Buffalo, Wald recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win in the sixth flight against Tina Jacob and picked up an 8-3 win with Martzolf against Samaranda Stan and Diana Toia at No. 2 doubles.
Miami (14-7), the No. 2 seed in the tournament, recorded a solid 5-0 win in the quarterfinals over No. 7 seed Ball State. The RedHawks suffered a hard-fought 4-2 loss to eventual tournament champion and tournament host Buffalo in the semifinals.
